Dazzling Brussels: The next stop on my summer 2010 backpacking trip

Brussels was a nice, relaxing stop during our European backpacking trip (June 16 - August 25th).  It was somewhat toward the end of our trip so we needed a few days to stop and taste, ehem...smell the chocolate.

If you are a lover of opulent architecture and have a fierce eye for detail you will love Brussels.  The architecture spans from medieval to post modern, which the jewel being the gothic Grand Place.

More architecture from around the city:

I still can't believe how many bikes are in this lot - look how far back they go!

Any of my lovely readers been to Brussels?

I'm Belgian, so I go often to Brussels. One of my favorite things to do there is "sightseeing" Horta and Art Nouveau houses (if you like "Art Nouveau")(I don't know how it's called in English, sorry, it's like the building with "Olf England" on it in your pictures)(is it the MIM - the Museum of Music?). You can do that with Arau (http://www.arau.org/en/tours) I've done one and it's amazing, you can see houses and private hotels from the inside.

And there is also this amazing and big (and incredubly decorated) bookshop called "Cook & Book" that you can see here: http://www.les-lectures-de-cachou.com/ou-je-vous-parle-de-cook-book-une-librairie-bruxelloise-qui-risque-de-vous-plaire/

PS: pardon my English ^_^
