One side of the kitchen
The other side of the "kitchen"This room is large so I think that's one major factor to this working. I really like the identical sideboards on either end of the larger table.
The second room I found is this rancher renovation turned into a modern open layout home.

I've never thought of using a mirror as a backsplash in the kitchen, but it looks awesome!

I agree with lila, who long is going to be clean the mirror? looks fine but it's not worth it
I agree with Lila, I like the mirror backsplash idea! might be a little hard to keep looking shiny and new (if the kitchen is used). I love the light colors mixed with the luxurious gilted looking accents!
I might also put drapes in the dining area - or scratch that, a bamboo shade to keep it feeling casual :)
I think it's beautiful. However for an avid baker like me, I'd be forever using windex on that mirror.
Or on the flip side, have a beautiful kitchen, and just never cook or bake...Just keep take out numbers on hand.
I believe that the first kitchen used to be a dining room and they wanted to pay homage to it's history. I love it!
I am madly in love with the first kitchen and did a post on in January under the title "Fresh Take On A Kitchen". The owner actually commented on my blog providing some insights.
I am so surprised more bloggers didn't post on it and was so very glad that you did!
I like both of them ;)))) but the first one little bit more :))))
Great finds.
Have a great day!

I hate to be the dissenting voice, but I find the first one too much of a mish mosh for my taste. I do like the second ranch reno...it is more cohesive.
Definitely neat. I love when I see really different, daring renos. As someone in the middle of a never ending gut reno, it is hard to go out on a limb and create something different and beautiful when 1. You are on a schedule 2. You are on a budget and 3. You are dealing with contractors and builders who do not necessarily share in your vision. So kudoooze to these two!
I'm in love with the first kitchen..and I've read the owners comments about all the unique features there. He said it's a much used kitchen and the mirror is in no way is an issue...what's a little cleaning when you have all that fabulousness surrounding you?!? I think it's stunning.
Thomas Jefferson could feel very at home there...
I love the first photo - would never have thought of placing a huge mirror there :)
love the first image!!! succh a gorgeous way to bring a room to life using such unexpected elements!!
I love how it looks, but wouldn't you get tired of watching yourself slave over a hot stove? Too much mirror.
the first one. more elegant, but a lot of pieces to work with to make them into different areas as needed.
I saw this spread - I think what they did with the kitchen is great. It doesn't feel like a kitchen at all - no heavy cabinets, no tile. It's fab. I'll take it!
I love that kitchen. The mirror over the stove is just divine.
Can you say Gorgeous!!
I love the way the mirror heightens the space...G-O-R-G-E-O-U-S. Great natural light.
This is classic and amazing. Love it.
